Landline: 01242 620020 : Mobile: 07836 225711
Registrations can be taken prior to, and throughout the three auction days.
When emailing to register, we will need your name, full postal address and your contact telephone details and we will confirm your registration by return.
You will be allocated a unique 'PB' number (postal bidder) in order that you can trace the status of your bid online through the weekend's regular updates.
Previous customers... Who have already been issued with a 'PB' number may retain and use the same number, when showing an interest to bid on lots.
Bidders... Can either leave a firm bid or a bid range on items of interest to them, which can be activated on your behalf throughout the auction period, should circumstances not allow you to personally engage with us during the sale.
Any bid received with regards to any lot stated with a minimum bid does not mean that the bid is necessarily the vendor's reserve. Therefore you would need to monitor the bids throughout the course of the auction period.
Once it is stated at the top of the catalogue that the final realisation list is now online, please don't assume that the figures shown against all lots at the close of the auction at 8pm are correct, as we need time to reconcile all of your bids.
Bidding increments. £10 up to £500... £20 up to £1,000.... note... there are no £5 increments in our sales.
Email bids... Accepted any time pre-sale and during the three-day sale period.
Telephone calls can be accepted between 10am-8pm of the first two sale days (Friday and Saturday). Note 6pm on the third day (Sunday).
Thereafter... Only emails accepted on Sunday between 6pm-8pm. Any emails timed at arriving at our office after 8pm on Sunday 15th Feb will be invalid.
Please wait up to 48 hours after the end of the sale while we reconcile all of your bids before the final realisation list is posted.
Please be patient and courteous to our staff at all times.
If you are interested in any 'non-sold' items on the realisation list, please allow 24 hours before emailing or phoning, i.e from 17th February.
Please allow a period of 7 days for us to check with the vendor to discuss that any bid that is received throughout the course of the auction would be accepted, if below the instructions of the reserve price, which was fixed by the vendor.
As per our Terms & Conditions... Buyers pay the Hammer Price plus 15% and VAT, (totalling 18%).

Brass Steam Locomotive REPRODUCTION Full Size Nameplate
DUKE OF GLOUCESTER. Original as carried by a Riddles designed BR Standard class 8P 4-6-2 No 71000 built at Crewe Works in May 1954. In BR service it was allocated to Crewe North but spent time on loan to the GWR and Swindon Test plant between October 1954 and May 1955, whereby it produced a higher cylinder efficiency than any other simple expansion engine ever recorded – a potential world-beater. It then returned to Crewe North and was withdrawn in November 1962 with many parts removed including the left-hand cylinder and valve gear to the Science Museum and the right-hand cylinder removed, presumably for balance. It then went to Cashmore’s of Newport and was further stripped in preparation for cutting up before spending seven years at Barry Scrapyard and by 1973 corrosion and souvenir hunters had completed the degeneration. The cost of replacing the parts alone was enough to deter those rescuing other engines from Barry until its rescue for preservation in May 1973. Colin Rhodes, Mr Daniels and Peter King were instrumental in establishing the supporting Trust and fundraising for the vital missing parts, with subsequent restoration work at the Great Central Railway which was completed in 1990. After several 10-year overhauls it recently returned to the main line in 2025. This plate, made to the order of Trust Director Peter King for the restored locomotive, together with the smokebox numberplate below, have actually been on the locomotive in preservation for far longer than the originals ever were! The plates are being offered by the late Peter King’s daughter following them being presented to Peter at one of the past overhauls. Peter King was the author of The Impossible Dream – the story behind the resurgence of 71000 Duke of Gloucester. Closing Bid: £2,300 Bidder: 2254 |
